can pets stay in hotels
Summer is around the bend, which means…exciting travel plans with your pet are imminent! The travel industry has become increasingly more welcoming to pet owners and pets, particularly when it comes to hotels. If you’ve got vacay with your dog or cat on the calendar, here’s what you need to know about pets and hotel stays.
Are all hotels pet-friendly?
Sadly, no. Not all hotels allow furry friends; however, many hotel chains and boutique hotels do. Most hotels will list their pet policy on their website, but if you have any questions, don’t hesitate to call the front desk. It’s also important to see if the hotel has any restrictions in regards to your pet. Some hotels might have a pet weight limit, or they might not allow cats (more on that sad fact below).
How much does it cost for my pet to stay at a hotel?
Pet-friendly accommodations range from zero dollars to $100+ dollars per night. Some hotels will require a deposit and/or a pet non-refundable cleaning fee. You’ll most likely find this information on the hotel’s website, but again, if you have any questions, the hotel’s friendly staff will be more than happy to answer them.
My pet is allowed in the hotel — now what?
When you check in, the front desk might already know that you’re traveling with a four-legged friend or they might ask you. If they don’t ask, make sure to let them know as most hotels have pet-designated rooms. The front desk will also let you know about the rules and special amenities of having your pet stay there, such as any special treats they offer, where the poop zone is, and whether or not your pet can be left alone in the room. Some hotels may require that pet travelers are kept in a kennel while you’re away or request that your dog not bark excessively. This is for their safety as well as the safety of the staff and other guests. And another thing — if your pet is allowed to stay at the hotel, that doesn’t necessarily mean they’re allowed to hang at the breakfast buffet, fitness center, or hotel bar.
Are cats allowed to stay in hotels?
Here’s a little-known fact about hotels: Many pet-friendly hotels do not allow cats. Yep, it’s an unfortunate truth that cat owners come across on their travels. If the hotel you’re planning on staying at is pet-friendly, call to double check that your feline friend can stay there. Typically rules and fees that apply for dogs will be similar for cats, such as whether or not they’re allowed to be solo in the room. Happy tails & trails to you and your furry travel buddy!
