Optimum Wellness Plans^® are yearlong preventive petcare packages that bundle services for easy care management and budgeting. They include the routine and annual services that Banfield recommends for pets based on their species, age, and other factors.

There are several options for plans, but don’t worry if you’re not sure which to choose. You’ll get a one-on-one consult with a Banfield vet when you’re enrolling your pet for an OWP, so you can feel confident you’re getting the right package of services for your furry friend.

What’s included in an Optimum Wellness Plan for dogs?

Every canine Optimum Wellness Plan includes:

• Unlimited office visits
• Virtual Visits
• 24/7 Pet Chat™ (not available in all states)
• 1:1 nutrition coaching
• Comprehensive exams
• Recommended routine vaccinations
• Diagnostic testing
• Fecal exams

You read that right: All OWPs include unlimited office visits. And that’s at any of over 1,000 Banfield locations nationwide. Plus, plans include a specified number of Virtual Visits for when you can’t make it in. You’ll also have 24/7 access to Pet Chat™ (not available in all states), where you can get advice from veterinary professionals. We also provide a 1:1 coaching session to cover all of your questions about your dog’s nutrition, diet, and weight.

Our OWPs also include two comprehensive exams — nose-to-tail evaluations of your dog’s heart, ears, eyes, tummy, tush, and more. Think of them like your own yearly checkups. Routine vaccinations and boosters are also included to help protect your dog against illnesses and disease. Finally, diagnostic testing like fecal exams, blood work, and more will give you insight into your dog’s health.

What’s included in an Optimum Wellness Plan for cats?

Feline Optimum Wellness Plans include all the same amazing services as the OWPs for dogs — unlimited office visits, diagnostic testing, vaccinations, 24/7 Pet Chat™ (not available in all states) — but with a few key differences. First, your veterinarian may recommend that your cat be administered feline-specific vaccines for viral rhinotracheitis, calicivirus, panleukopenia, and feline leukemia. They will also receive feline-specific heartworm testing as well as testing for feline heart diseases, thyroid issues, and early kidney disease (available in our Senior and Special Care plans).

What’s the difference between Early Care and Early Care Plus plans and Active Care and Active Care Plus?

Our Early Care and Early Care Plus plans for puppies and kittens help to protect your pet from harmful diseases and support their health as they grow to give them the best possible start. Early Care Plus also includes a spay or neuter procedure and an additional discount on non-OWP services.

Our Active Care and Active Care Plus plans make it easy to give your dog or cat high-quality preventive care. Active Care Plus includes a professional dental cleaning as well as an additional discount on non-OWP services. If your pet needs more care because of a chronic condition, our Special Care includes additional diagnostic testing to monitor any changes in your pet’s health.

Is there an Optimum Wellness Plan for senior dogs or cats?

Yes! We have our Senior Care and Senior Care Plus plans for our older patients that include amazing services such as blood pressure evaluation, thyroid testing, advanced kidney testing, additional blood work to help determine if heart disease is present, and a professional dental cleaning (in our Senior Care Plus plan).

Can I customize my pet’s Optimum Wellness Plan?

Yes! Our OWPs are easy to customize, allowing you to add services that fit your pet’s needs, lifestyle, and age. A few of our customizations include:

• Parasite control
• Canine influenza vaccine
• Wisdom Panel™ DNA test to screen for over 150 genetic disease mutations
• Adult spay or neuter
• Additional dental cleaning
• Anti-nausea injections (helpful for pets undergoing anesthesia)
• Dermatology testing
• Screening radiographs for bones, joints, and organs
• Dental radiographs
• Medically assisted sedation to help with pet’s stress

How are Optimum Wellness Plans different from insurance?

Banfield’s OWPs work differently than pet insurance. First, there are no deductibles. Your plan cost is what you pay for its included services. Second, unlike pet insurance, which may or may not reimburse plan holders for services after they are performed, Banfield clients know exactly what’s included in their plan.

Optimum Wellness Plans have predictable costs so you can budget accordingly for your pet’s foundational care. And if they get sick or injured and need other care from Banfield, your OWP discount can help you manage the price of certain services and prescription medication.
