celebrating Black History Month
At Banfield, we know that Equity, Inclusion, and Diversity (EI+D) are integral to living out our purpose: A BETTER WORLD FOR PETS.
That’s why we’re committed to ensuring that our workforce reflects the communities we serve, that we create an inclusive workplace culture where all of our associates can be themselves and do their best work together, and that we provide the best care for all of our clients and their pets, whoever and wherever they are.
This Black History Month, and all year round, we want to acknowledge Black talent who contribute so much to the veterinary industry, including our very own Jeff Ellison (Chief Operating Officer), Melissa Marshall (Vice President, People & Organization), Lisa Stockmon (Chief Marketing Officer), Dr. Alea Harrison, DVM (Vice President, Veterinary Internal Operations, Veterinary Affairs), and the incredible veterinarians, vet techs and assistants, hospital associates, field leaders, and corporate staff who work at Banfield.
We also want to give a shout-out to POWER, one of our diversity resource groups, which is focused on providing tools and resources to attract, retain, an elevate Black talent at Banfield. Through internal partnerships, active allyship, and external relationships, POWER builds pathways for Black associates to develop at Banfield and impact the veterinary industry.
If you’re the next amazing generation of Black talent in petcare, we want to support you! Listed below are just a few of the programs we offer. We hope you’ll consider joining the Banfield family!
Next Vet
Through this yearly program, we select 15 students to participate in a paid and immersive veterinary internship of a lifetime. Applications will open for Summer 2023, so please stay tuned for more details.
Partnership with Tuskegee University
Through our Banfield Pathways Program, we’ve partnered with a number of academic institutions, including the historically Black Tuskegee University. Eligible associates can receive 100% tuition coverage toward undergraduate studies, including business, STEM and pre-veterinary medicine, veterinary science, and high school completion programs. Tuskegee students have also participated in our Student Jobs Program, which enables first- through third- year veterinary students enrolled in an AVMA accredited program to participate in a 6- to 10-week summer veterinary internship.
Partnership with Boys & Girls Clubs of America
In 2021, we partnered with Boys & Girls Clubs of America to help encourage high school students from underrepresented backgrounds to pursue careers in veterinary medicine. We’ve committed $10 million toward this initiative so far.
Banfield Pet Academy®
For over 15 years, we’ve connected with local communities to teach young people about pets and careers in veterinary medicine. If you’re a Banfield associate and want to get involved in your local community, check out these helpful resources.
