    Whether you’re a dog family, cat lover, or pocket pet fanatic, the Banfield Pet Hospital on Capitol Hill provides quality health care your pet needs. We are a full service veterinary hospital and offer head-to-tail services for your pet to help keep them right where they belong, by your side.

    Located just minutes from downtown Seattle, this Banfield location is above the QFC on Broadway and Pike St. on Capitol Hill. We offer services including parasite control, vaccinations, internal medicine, and more. We also provide services for your pocket pet, bird or reptile, please call for further information and scheduling.

    We always accept new patients and same day access appointments may be available. We also offer drop off appointments for your convenience. Whenever possible, please call ahead to facilitate the coordination of the highest quality service possible.

    Dr. Suzanne Byrd

    Chief of Staff

    Dr. Suzanne Byrd graduated from the University of California, Davis in 2009. She has lived in many places, but considers Washington and Hawaii to be home. She worked at the Banfield in Federal Way, WA for about 4 years, then was distracted by a shiny object for a while. She is now back at the Capitol Hill location and loves it!     Dr. Darlene DeGhetto


    Dr. DeGhetto was born and raised in northern New Jersey. She attended Seton Hall University, then moved to Colorado, where she graduated from the Veterinary school at Colorado State University. She completed an internship in Small Animal Medicine and Surgery at VCA in West Los Angeles, then spent several years doing field research on sea lions and fur seals in Alaska, Washington and California. After settling down in Washington, she worked at a mixed animal practice for a year, then moved to PAWS in Lynnwood to practice wildlife rehabilitation medicine and companion animal shelter medicine. Dr. DeGhetto has a special interest in gerontology and care of the aging pet, and exotic animal medicine. She lives in Seattle with her husband, 3 children (teenagers!), 3 small, adorable pets and an 18-year-old box turtle named Uguay. More Details >>

    Dr. Kayla Hough


    Dr. Hough was born in the Renton Highlands in Washington but happily calls Capitol Hill home. She attended Washington State University for her undergraduate degree in animal science before attending St. Matthew's University School of Veterinary Medicine in the Cayman Islands. She spent her last year of veterinary school in Pullman, WA at Washington State University which concluded in October 2018, and began working with the Banfield family in November 2018. Dr. Hough shares a home with a bonded pair of rabbits, Mac and Rory, along with a younger Chihuahua/rat terrier mix named Quill. Her hobbies include learning to play the guitar, playing board games with friends and family, and cooking, and her professional interests in veterinary medicine include cardiology, dermatology and ophthalmology.     Dr. Clarissa Varilek


    Dr. Varilek is from Columbus, Nebraska (which is home but Washington is way better). She received her bachelor's in animal science from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln and graduated from Iowa State University in 2017 as a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine. She has been with Banfield for almost 2 years now, and loves preventive medicine and helping pets live healthier lives. It's one of the reasons she wanted to become a veterinarian and one of the reasons she joined Banfield. Dr. Varilek has special interests in dermatology and nutrition, and one of her favorite hobbies is baking for her awesome coworkers (anything from cakes and cookies to flan!). She loves hiking, trying new food, and exploring Washington with her husband, Mike. Her patronus is a beagle, which was based on a buzzfeed quiz. More Details >>

    Lia Laqua

    Practice Manager

    Lia has been with Banfield since 2015 starting as a CSC and working her way up. She is originally from the Bay Area but has lived in San Diego, Omaha, New York, and Minneapolis, and has called Seattle home since 2016. She graduated from Creighton University in 2011 and shortly after moved to NYC. Prior to starting with Banfield, Lia worked in documentary film and television production focusing on social and environmental issues, criminal justice reform, and the Reagan-era War on Drugs, as well as working as a grant writer for funding. She hopes to continue pursuing her passions through Banfield with a goal of being part of the corporate Banfield team in Vancouver, WA. In her spare time, Lia enjoys reading, gardening, film, thrifting, traveling (especially to ancient ruins), and hanging out with family. She lives in Capitol Hill with her husband, daughter, and two cats, Larry and Beezy. More Details >>

    Alex Ross, LVT

    Veterinary Technician

    Alex has been with Banfield since 2013. She graduated from Pima Medical Institute with honors and has an Associate in Applied Science degree. She was born on Capitol Hill at Group Health Hospital and lived in Seattle until she moved to Tampa, FL with her family at 15 years old. After 16 long years, she decided to come back home. Alex has a daughter named Sydney and a tiny herd including 2 cats, JoJo and Pi, and a dog, Molly. She is very passionate about her role in the veterinary industry, and believes that preventive care and a strong partnership with pet parents are the best ways to help keep pets healthy. She considers herself a foodie and loves to try new foods and dining experiences.     Dasha Ottesen

    Shift Lead

    Dasha was born and raised in San Francisco, and moved to Seattle with her husband from the Bay Area in 2016. She has a background in fashion but found a love for animals with her first pet, a pom named Stella. She began her Banfield career in 2012 at the Daly City location and was Practice Manager at the Aurora location for about year before deciding to come back to Capitol Hill. Dasha has a German Shepherd named Cassius and a gray cat named Lucius, loves journaling, and is obsessed with Hulu and Netflix. She still loves fashion and goes shopping for clothes and makeup any chance she gets (only animal friendly brands of course!). Her patronus is a white swan, her wand is made of Rowan, and she is a member of Slytherin house (only mildly obsessed with Harry Potter!). More Details >>

    Jessica Gallardo

    Veterinary Assistant

    Jessica was born and raised in Los Angeles but now calls Seattle home. She has an A.A.S. degree in biology from Santa Monica Community College. She's been with Banfield since 2014 starting at the Culver City location and has been at the Capitol Hill location since 2016. Jessica has a dog named Justice and two cats, Ansem and Charlie. She loves being able to work with wonderful people who care so much about animals but would ultimately love to work in human medicine. She plans on pursuing further education at the University of Washington. In her free time, Jessica loves reading, hiking with friends, and playing videogames.     Cassie Armstrong

    Veterinary Assistant

    Cassie has been with Banfield since 2015 and is currently continuing education through the Penn Foster program to become a licensed veterinary technician. Her passion for pets began on her family farm caring for horses and ponies, and while she attended PIMA for veterinary assisting. Cassie is from Wisconsin but now lives in Capitol Hill and calls Seattle home. She loves cats and has two of her own, Little Eevee Cat and Vivicat A. Fox. She is also a video game enthusiast and movie aficionado, always shopping around Capitol Hill for great movie deals.     Bailey Weiland

    Veterinary Assistant

    Bailey was born in Utah but Seattle is now home. She went to Shoreline Community College and studied geography, and is currently furthering her education through the Penn Foster program to become a LVT. She has been with Banfield since 2017 and loves animals so much! She has (2) 2-year-old cats, Luna and Teak, and a 1-year-old German Shepherd named Bella. Bailey's favorite part of her job is that she loves to learn something new every day and the help and care she can give to pets. She hopes in the next 5 years to be a LVT and gain enough experience to work in emergency care. Some of her hobbies include crafting and journaling, and outdoor activities like camping and biking.     Lisa McQuaid

    Veterinary Assistant

    Lisa is from Ireland but Seattle has been home for 20+ years. Prior to starting with Banfield in May of 2018, she was in the hospitality industry and was an independently contracted dog walker/pet sitter in Belltown. She has also worked at Mud Bay and other specialty pet retail stores. Lisa has a rescue calico cat named Una, who has quite a saucy personality. She loves working at Banfield because she truly enjoys helping both animals and people. In 5 years, she hopes to be able to travel the world and take her knowledge to those in need. Her hobbies include photography, movies, and arts and crafts, and her spirit animal could be a koala as they are both fans of sleeping! More Details >>

    Veterinary Assistant

    Sasha has been with Banfield since 2018, and received her veterinary assisting certification from Pima Medical Institute here in Seattle. She moved to the PNW with her partner and their Pomeranian, Kena, in the summer of 2017. She hopes to pursue further education and enroll in the Penn Foster program to become a veterinary technician in the near future. Sasha enjoys being outdoors and playing sports like soccer, and spending time with family. She also loves doing arts and crafts, and being creative with different kinds of projects. More Details >>

    Hanna is originally from Central Washington but now calls Seattle home. She graduated with her B.S. degree in biology from Central Washington University, and has been with Banfield since 2017. She and her partner have two outback corgis, Nyx and Griffey. Hanna hopes to keep working with animals in her future, whether it be in pursuing a LVT certification or going back to medical school.     Yesi Avila

    Client Service Coordinator

    Yesi was born and raised in New York, and moved to Seattle in 2017. She used to volunteer at an animal shelter in New York, and worked at Petsmart in Lynnwod before transitioning to Banfield in 2018. She is currently enrolled in the Penn Foster program to become a licensed veterinary technician, and wants to be a LVT because she loves animals and wants to care for them and keep them healthy. Yesi's favorite part of the job is being able to help educate pet parents on best ways to care for their furry loved ones. At home, she has a cat named Angel Wings and a dog named Ocean, and she is a huge gamer - on all platforms, from Xbox to Playstation to PC and of course, Nintendo Switch.
