She came to the U.S. soon after graduating from vet school to do a 2 year fellowship program with the University of Florida and met her husband, a Gainesville native. After getting married, she worked with Banfield for 6 years as a Veterinary Technician, then left Banfield to work at the University of Florida for 3 years, first at the College of Veterinary Medicine in the Clinical Pathology department and then in Animal Care Services in research. Dr. Portela then finished the Educational Commission for Foreign Veterinary Graduates program and became licensed to practice veterinary medicine in the U.S. She came back to Banfield and has been with the company since 2015. Dr. Amanda Trompeta

"Hello everyone! I am Dr. Amanda Trompeta, but I prefer to go by Dr. T. Before vet school, I completed my undergraduate degree at the University of Central Florida. While in school I created an organization called "Don't Shop, Adopt", that is still active on campus today. Working with shelters/rescues is one of my passions and I look forward to shaping my career in that direction. I attended vet school at Iowa State College of Veterinary Medicine. The people were wonderful, but the -50 degree F winters were not. I am very excited to be back home in sunny Florida once again. My special interests right now include Dermatology and Cardiology. In the future I would like to work with exotic pocket pets and wildlife. In my free time I love to go on adventures (local and abroad), spend time with loved ones and get lost in a good book.
