Dr. Steve Dick
Chief of Staff
Dr. Steve Dick graduated in 2003 from the University of Minnesota College of Veterinary Medicine. Following graduation, he entered Active Duty in the US Army Veterinary Corps with assignments at Marine Corps Air Station Cherry Point, NC; Ft. Lewis, WA; and a one-year deployment to Kuwait. In 2007, Dr. Dick joined Banfield as the Chief of Staff in St. Paul, MN, then moved to Colorado in 2010 to take the same role at the Littleton Banfield. From 2012-2016, he was the Medical Director for the Colorado North market, supporting 16 hospitals, before transferring to the South Market in 2017. Dr. Dick joined the Arvada West Veterinary Hospital team as the Chief of Staff in August 2018. His family includes his wife, Jen; son, Ephram; dog, Finn; turtle, Tiny Tim; and a few fish. In his free-time, he enjoys skiing, mountain biking, tennis, traveling, and camping with his family.

Dr. Colleen Mathews
Veterinarian
Dr. Colleen Mathews grew up on the shores of Lake Michigan in Illinois. After college, she headed west for Colorado and graduated from CSU Veterinary School. In 2004, she became certified in acupuncture and did a brief internship with a holistic veterinarian in Longmont. Dr. Mathews has been working in the Golden, Arvada and Evergreen area since 1997. In her free time, she enjoys wandering the mountains with her dogs, photography, biking, and camping. Her animal family includes Oakley, pictured here, as well as Jordy, a Chihuahua mix, a cat named Cayenne, and 2 goldfish.

Dr. Erin Wendt
Veterinarian
Dr. Erin Wendt is an Indiana native who vacationed often in Colorado with her family and decided to make a permanent move three years ago. After completing her undergraduate degree in zoology at Michigan State, she attended veterinary school at Purdue. During veterinary school, Dr. Wendt completed a study abroad program in South Africa working with native wildlife species and another program in Brno, Czech Republic assisting in equine, small animal, and exotic animal clinics. Dr. Wendt is now certified as a Fear Free Practitioner after taking numerous hours of training and passing certification exams. She is dedicated to taking the “pet out of petrified” when pets and their families visit us for an appointment.

Dr. Ben Read
Veterinarian
Dr. Ben Read completed his veterinary education at St. George’s University in Grenada, West Indies and his clinical year at Washington State University. Following a family tradition, Dr. Read became a veterinarian after observing veterinary medicine up close throughout his life as his father is a veterinarian with over thirty years in practice! Dr. Read is excited to make the move to “Colorful Colorado” to enjoy hiking, camping, and photography. He’s also a musician, as are several members of our team, and plays several instruments including the drums. Since we don’t have a garage, we may have to start an “attic” band soon!

Dr. Pranav Chawla
Veterinarian
Dr. Chawla hails from Ocean Township, NJ. In 2009, he received his bachelor’s degree in animal sciences from the University of Maryland and his Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine from St. George’s University in 2014. Dr. Chawla completed clinical training at The Ohio State University College of Veterinary Medicine and a small animal medicine and surgery internship at the Southern California Veterinary Specialty Hospital. After moving to Columbus, OH, Dr. Chawla worked in emergency and critical care medicine, shelter medicine, as a general practitioner and dedicated much of 2017 and 2018 volunteering for a non-profit organization that provides veterinary care to pet owners in need. Dr. Chawla and his wife, Gracie, moved to Denver in August of 2018 and in his free time, he enjoys exercise, playing music, cooking, reading, and traveling. He and his wife share their home with a Caribbean farm dog named Mr. Flea and a Caribbean wildcat named Louie.
