Unfortunately there is likely not a good reason or answer to why he likes to eat earthworms. Issues like this can be unique to the individual puppy. It is good that you are trying to prevent this as this could potentially cause illness. If you see any clinical signs like not wanting to eat, lethargy, vomiting or diarrhea you should take him into see a veterinarian as soon as possible. Also if you are unable to keep him from eating the earthworms I would talk to your veterinarian about the problem. They can work with you on a behavior modification plan that is specific to your pet and his environment.
