• We have a Bernese mountain dog who is turning 6 months on the 10th of December. Her spay is scheduled for the 14 of December, now the question is since Marley is large breed should we wait longer before we spay here so she has no issues with her bones and growing or is it okay to go ahead and do ?

    Hi Brandon,
There are benefits to spaying at a younger age including improved recovery time and reduction in certain disease possibilities.  It is often recommended to spay a female prior to her first heat cycle for these same reasons. If you have concerns about the timing of the spay for your dog, I would recommend speaking with your veterinarian as they will know your pet’s specific needs and can also discuss your concerns about her bone growth. Based on all of the positives and negatives you can then decide together what is best for Marley.
