Ask a Vet Archive

When it comes to your pet's health, there's no such thing as a dumb question. Search questions real clients have submitted to our popular Ask a Vet Q&A series, and then submit a question of your own.

  • My four-month-old parakeet is going through his first molt and I just noticed that his feathers look greasy. He is eating normally and has not shown any change in behavior. Should I be concerned?

This is not generally anything to be concerned about. However it can be a sign of early skin disease.

If he shows any other signs like feather loss, itchiness, lack of appetite, or other change in behavior I recommend that you take him into see a veterinarian. They can examine him for any underlying skin issues and recommend any treatment that he needs.
