• Took my 7mo old cattle dog mix to the beach on Monday (12/25). She drank some of the sea water although I tried to stop her and offered plenty of fresh water). She is now going into day four of diarrhea. I have seen no improvement in the firmness of her BMs. It's practically liquid. She wakes me up three times a night to poop. Still eating and drinking normally and no change in behavior. Should I bring her in?

    Hi Etta,

I recommend that you take her into see a veterinarian as soon as possible if you have not already done so. Diarrhea like you are describing is concerning in a puppy. There can be a few different causes for this including infection, intestinal parasites, inflammation of the GI tract, toxicity, or an underlying medical issue. The diarrhea also has the potential to lead to dehydration or electrolyte abnormalities. Your vet can talk to you more about the cause of her symptoms after they have examined her. They will likely recommend some lab tests to help diagnose or rule out certain diseases. The treatment that she needs will depend on the underlying cause and severity of her symptoms.
