Hi Bill,
I do recommend that you take Niko into see a veterinarian as soon as possible. Urinating in inappropriate places can be caused by a few different things including a urinary tract infection, bladder stones, bladder inflammation, or a more serious underlying medical issue like kidney disease or diabetes. These can sometimes cause a blockage of the urethra so if he is trying to urinate but nothing is coming out he needs to see a veterinarian immediately. Your vet can talk to you more about the cause of the symptoms after they have examined him. They will likely recommend some lab tests to help diagnose or rule out certain diseases. The treatment that he needs will depend on the underlying cause of his symptoms.
