• My dog. 8 yo dachsund. Had some constipation. I thought I would give him some pumpkin to help. Didn’t read instructions. Gave him 2 tsp. Then 2-3 spoonfuls after. He seems fine. But read it could be toxic. Wanted to make sure it was ok. Or if I could give him something to reverse effects before anything happens

    Hi Laura,
If you have noticed the constipation continue or if you are seeing any other clinical signs like vomiting, diarrhea, not wanting to eat or lethargy, I recommend that you take him into see a veterinarian as soon as possible. True constipation is rare in dogs and if seen, it is usually secondary to another disease process. Pumpkin can help benefit when extra fiber is needed but it may not be right for every situation. However, it is relatively safe for most pets. If you have concerns about his use of pumpkin, I recommend that you call and talk to your local vet. They will be able to give you the best advice on your individual pet.
