Hi Emily, I recommend that you take her into see a veterinarian. True constipation in dogs is rare and straining to defecate is more likely to be from an underlying medical or physical issue than from constipation. Your vet can talk to you more about the cause of her symptoms after they have examined her. I do not recommend giving any medications unless directed to do so by your vet. They can recommend the treatment that will be best for her.
