I recommend that you take your dog in to see a veterinarian. Pollen levels can affect dogs but it usually causes skin allergies not coughing. The coughing after being outdoors is concerning and could potentially be a sign of a heart or lung issue. In some cases these can be serious and early diagnosis and treatment can help to prevent or delay these complications. Your veterinarian can talk to you more about the cause of his coughing after they have examined him. They may also need to perform some lab work and/or x–rays to help with this diagnosis.
