Ricardo Barreto Herrera, DVM
Veterinarian
Dr. Ricardo always wanted to be a veterinarian. His parents owned cattle farms and he grew up doing equestrian jumping. After graduating in 1990 from the Universidad Central de Venezuela, he went to work as General Manager at a Holstein Farm and did private practice with cattle, focusing in herd health, reproduction, and animal welfare management. He's also owned a 150 dairy goat farm and worked with dairy water buffalos. In 2018, Dr. Ricardo moved to the US from Venezuela for political reasons. He was licensed in Florida in June 2021 and joined Banfield. While much of his experience is in caring for larger animals, he's enthusiastically embraced small animal medicine. He's a father of four and enjoys spending time his with his family. He coaches his son in golf, and you can find them traveling around south Florida for tournaments.
