Banfield Pet Hospital Invited to White House Thought Leadership Summit
June 02, 2015 • Washington, D.C.
In order to bring together thought leaders to discuss responsible antibiotic use for people, pets and agriculture nationwide, the White House hosted a Forum on Antibiotic Stewardship on June 2, 2015. Banfield’s own Karen Faunt, DVM, MS, DACVIM, vice president of medical quality advancement, was invited to attend the event and represent Banfield Pet Hospital’s commitment to this cause. The event brought together key federal and private sector organizations involved in the development, promotion and implementation of antibiotic stewardship activities, in order to mitigate the development of antibiotic-resistant bacteria.
“As the world’s largest veterinary practice treating over 2.8 million pets every year, we feel a strong sense of responsibility to protect not only the pets we provide care to every day, the overall pet population as a whole and the people they live with,” said Dr. Faunt. “Antibiotic resistance is a serious problem that could negatively impact people as well as pets, which is why we’re committed to being part of the solution.”
