Hi Jim, I recommend that you talk about your individual puppy's DNA test with your local veterinarian. This is a recessive disease so if your pet is only a carrier things should be okay. However, if your puppy tests positive that is a more difficult decision. In these cases it can sometimes be managed but in other cases it may have more serious issues. Your vet can talk to you more about the potential treatment options and the risks for your individual puppy.
