It is not abnormal for pets to become distraught and frightened with thunder and lightening, even for pets that are around it continuously. There are a few things that you can do to help your pet. If you know that there is a storm coming, bring your pet inside. If you have an available room with a radio or television, place your Pet in there with it on so that they are less likely to hear the outside storm. If you are unable to do that, bringing your Pet indoors prior and have them close so you can help keep them calm. In severe cases, some veterinarians offer sedatives to help. You may also consult with your veterinarian in regards to an over the counter medication that may be helpful.
