Ask a Vet Archive

When it comes to your pet's health, there's no such thing as a dumb question. Search questions real clients have submitted to our popular Ask a Vet Q&A series, and then submit a question of your own.

  • To get rid of or repel fleas off my dog, I have heard yeast and garlic can help, is that true?

Garlic can be toxic, as can onions. Anyway, brewers yeast and garlic really don't do much for flea control. There are some very good flea products available now that have an extremely low potential for adverse reactions.

Use products like FirstShield, Comfortis and Revolution for cats. Check in with your veterinary hospital for safe and effective products for pets as well as products for the home and yard if they are needed.
