I recommend that you make a follow-up appointment with the veterinarian who diagnosed your pet with diabetes. Without examining your pet and his labwork I can’t give an opinion on whether he will need insulin or not. If he has responded well to weight loss, he may not need insulin. If his blood sugar is high, he may need to start on insulin. Many dogs do eventually need insulin so it is important to keep an eye on his blood sugar over time.
