• My dog is nearing 6 Months and weighs 48 lbs. She is a German Shepherd and I wanted to make sure she gets spayed. The question I have is when do I do it? I watched the video available on the home page but it didn't really lend any information as to when I should get her spayed. I've read that getting her spayed before her first heat eliminates certain cancers, but I've also read that spaying too early can cause certain joint health issues or other issues later in life. I see that most places and people recommend spaying between 6 months to 1 year old, but I'm not sure if I should which time period is right for my GSD.

    Hi Jae,
I recommend that you talk to your local veterinarian about this question. As you found, there are certain risks and benefits no matter when you decide to have her spayed. Your local vet knows your pet and they can talk to you more in depth about the specific risks and benefits for your individual pet. Then together you can make the best decision on when to perform the surgery.
