Ask a Vet Archive

When it comes to your pet's health, there's no such thing as a dumb question. Search questions real clients have submitted to our popular Ask a Vet Q&A series, and then submit a question of your own.

  • My cat has a discolored discharge coming from a sore in his nose. I don't think it is contagious as our other cats seem quite healthy. Any ideas what might be causing this?

I recommend that you have your cat seen by your veterinarian as soon as possible. The discharge from the nose is not normal and can be a symptom of a respiratory infection or another disease. Your veterinarian can examine your cat and prescribe the best treatment for him.

I recommend that you monitor your other cat for the same symptoms. In some cases, one cat may get an infection and then pass it on to the other pets in the household. It is also possible that your other pet may never show signs of infection.
