• My 8 week old mini golden doodle puppy’s poop has been watery and discolored (slight red tints). I am concerned as I do not know if he ate something he shouldn’t have or if there is something else wrong, especially knowing the prevalence and severity of Parvo. He has an appt on Friday for his next vaccination. Should I try to bring him in prior?

    Hi Andrea,
I recommend that you take your puppy into see a veterinarian immediately if you have not already done so. Diarrhea like you are describing is very concerning in a puppy as this can lead to life threatening dehydration or low blood sugar. Parvo is a major cause of diarrhea in puppies but there can be other causes including intestinal parasites, inflammation of the GI tract, or other infectious causes. Your vet can talk to you more about the cause of his symptoms after they have examined him. They will likely recommend some lab tests to help diagnose or rule out certain diseases. The treatment that he needs will depend on the underlying cause and severity of his illness.
