Hi Janette, One episode of diarrhea may not need any treatment. However, if the diarrhea continues longer than 12 hours or if you see any signs like vomiting, not wanting to eat, or lethargy, I recommend that you take him into see a veterinarian. He should also see a vet if the diarrhea is bloody or is dark and tarry. These can be signs of a more serious underlying issue and he would need to go in to see a veterinarian. I do not recommend using any over the counter human medications unless directed to do so by your vet. Many of these medications can be harmful to cats.
