  • Lola recently started getting diarrhea after interacting with another dog who drooled excessively and had diarrhea. At first I thought it was something she ate but the next day my other dog, Einstein, also started getting diarrhea. I was dog sitting another dog who also got diarrhea and is also lethargic. The diarrhea is a yellow color and very foul smelling. My dogs have no other symptoms but I want to make sure they will be ok. What could be the cause of their contagious diarrhea and what should I do?

    Hi Maryam,
I recommend that you take all 3 dogs into see a veterinarian. The symptoms that you are describing are concerning and the diarrhea will not likely resolve on its own. There can be a few different causes for this including infection, intestinal parasites, inflammation of the GI tract, or even a toxin. Your vet can talk to you more about the cause of the diarrhea after they have examined them. Your vet will likely recommend some lab tests to help diagnose or rule out certain diseases. The treatment that your pets need will be based on the underlying cause of their symptoms.
