Ask a Vet Archive

When it comes to your pet's health, there's no such thing as a dumb question. Search questions real clients have submitted to our popular Ask a Vet Q&A series, and then submit a question of your own.

  • I took my dog in for a clean up hair cut yesterday and ever since he is dragging his butt across my floor every now and then. Can you tell my why and what I can do to stop him?

Scooting across the floor is generally a sign of irritation in the anal area. This can be caused by expressing his anal glands, itchiness or razor burn.

The scooting will usually resolves in around 24 hours if it is just from the grooming or anal gland expression. If it lasts longer than that, I recommend that you take him into see your veterinarian.
