Ask a Vet Archive

When it comes to your pet's health, there's no such thing as a dumb question. Search questions real clients have submitted to our popular Ask a Vet Q&A series, and then submit a question of your own.

  • I have two eight-week-old sister boxer pups. They have both been wormed and treated for fleas. One is hyper and normal whereas the other, the runt of the litter, is more lethargic and happy to just sleep on your lap all day. Both eat well and go to the bathroom very often. Is this normal? It has us concerned that she is so sleepy all the time. Is this normal for an eight-week-old?

Puppies, even those for the same litter, can have very different personalities. The differences in your puppies may be normal. However, it could be that the smaller puppy was something going on that is causing the lethargy.

I recommend that you take them both into see your veterinarian. They can examine both of them and make sure that they are healthy. In this case, especially with the history of intestinal parasites, it is better to be safe than sorry.
