• I have a concern for my dog. I have notice that he is grunting a lot like he cant breath. When he gets excited its really bad. He has choked on his food because of it. What could be the cause? Should i be concerned?

    Hi Amber,
I recommend that you take him into see a veterinarian as soon as possible. Grunting and difficulty breathing are concerning, This can be caused by a few different things like allergies, an upper respiratory infection, or something more serious like heart disease or pneumonia. Your vet can talk to you more about the cause of his symptoms after they have examined him. If you can video an episode at home and take it to your appointment this can help your vet narrow down the potential causes. Your vet may recommend some lab tests and/or x-rays to help with the diagnosis. The treatment he needs will depend on the underlying cause and severity of his symptoms.
