  • How do I wean my puppy off mother's milk?

The puppies should be offered moistened puppy food (add water to dry food) starting at about 4 weeks of age. Once they start ingesting this you can slowly start to decrease the amount of water in the food as their teeth develop. Puppies should be able to eat dry food by itself at around 6 weeks of age.

As they get older, the puppies will usually eat more and more of the puppy food and less of mom’s milk. We recommend keeping the puppies with mom until they are 8 weeks of age. At 8 weeks of age, if they are eating the puppy food well, they can safely be taken away from their mother. Puppies that are over 6 weeks of age can safely eat only puppy food and do not require any milk replacers.
