• hi! our Emma was adopted 15 days ago. she seems to be having some separation anxiety induced barking that lasts up to 40 minutes after we leave for work each day. based on our webcam - she eventually calms down. I am hoping this is going to improve as she adjusts to her new home and learns that we will always come home to her. when is it appropriate to discuss medication options?

Hi Madeleine, I recommend that you take Emma into see a veterinarian. 40 minutes is longer than usual for barking and this might need medication or other treatment to help reduce her stress. The treatment that will be best for her will depend on the underlying trigger of the behavior as well as the exact symptoms that she is showing. Your vet can work with you on a behavior modification plan that is specific to Emma and your situation.
