• Hello, Research and articles have recently been released from the FDA regarding grain free diets linked to heart problems. My dog is on a grain free diet and a slight heart murmur was recently detected at his last vet visit. I have read that adding Taurine, which is an amino acid found in high concentrations in the heart, and aids in normal contractile function, could help. Do you recommend this for my dog? And if so, what dosage?

    Hi Vanessa,
I recommend that you talk to your local veterinarian about your concerns. At this point, it is not known what may be causing the heart problems in the dogs on grain free diets. So supplementing with taurine may not be needed. The best diet for your pet will depend on a few different factors including your pet’s age, breed, and overall health. Your vet knows your pet and they can talk to you about the taurine supplementation and the diet that will be best for your pet.
