• Good morning! My cat is actually not quite a year old he is 8 months so he didn't fit in the provided age categories of Ask a Vet (it jumps from "under 6 months" to "1-3 years") ANYWAY MY QUESTION: His butt is so STINKY! When I try to pet him it almost always seems WET. I guess it's some kind of secretion because then it gets on my hands and OMG it is so stinky!! He has regular bowel movements, no problems there. He is eating Royal Canin Kitten dry and wet food. He also has lots of fresh water.

    Hi Christine,
I recommend that you take him into see a veterinarian. The secretion that you are describing is concerning. There can be a few different causes for this incluiding anal gland issues, infection, issues defecating, or an underlying medical issue. Your vet can talk to you more about the cause of this and the treatment he needs after they have examined him.
