Ear infections are not as common in these breeds as they are in breeds like Bassett Hounds, Labrador Retrievers, or Poodles. However, any breed of dog can get an ear infection. Ear infections can be more frequent in dogs with environmental allergies, food allergies, dogs who swim a lot, dogs with large ears, or if they have hair in their ear canal. These factors can be found in any individual dog depending on their unique circumstances. If your dog is showing signs of an ear infection like scratching at the ears, shaking his head, or discomfort when touched around the ears or if you notice that the ears are red and inflamed I recommend that you take him into see your veterinarian as soon as possible.
