Dr. Akins is a graduate of Auburn University, where she studied psychology and animal behavior prior to attending Ross University School of Veterinary Medicine. She completed an internship in small animal medicine and surgery with heavy emphasis on emergency/critical care prior to joining the Banfield team. Her experience with critical patients inspires her to advocate for veterinary wellness using a holistic approach, emphasizing preventive care and nutrition. She is always excited to meet with clients and educate them about their pets’ health. Dr. Akins loves to spend time outdoors and is an avid hiker. She especially enjoys canoeing with her partner and 13-year-old Pomeranian mix, Rocketman. Dr. Akins also has personal and professional interests in zoo and wildlife medicine, but she is tired of being chased by ostriches and prefers being involved in enhancing the pet-human bond.
