Born and raised in Pittsburgh, Dr. McKain moved to North Carolina in 2008 to pursue bachelors’ degrees in animal science and poultry science at North Carolina State University. She graduated with honors and as a class valedictorian in 2012, and then continued her education at the NC State College of Veterinary Medicine, graduating in 2016. During her education, she worked as a veterinary assistant in a small animal practice outside of Raleigh. Her professional interests include internal medicine, emergency medicine, and preventive health, and she is a member of the AVMA, AAHA, and NCVMA. Dr. McKain shares her home with Aspen, a 3-year-old border collie mix, and Persephone, a 6-year-old short haired cat. In her spare time, she enjoys hiking, knitting, and reading. She is an avid Pittsburgh Steelers fan and enjoys traveling, both domestically and internationally.
