A Feline Focus on Antimicrobial Usage The threat of antimicrobial resistance among bacteria is a global reality that affects humans and animals alike, and veterinarians play a key role in mitigating the development of drug-resistant bacterial strains. Despite this, opportunities to improve the judicious use of antimicrobial drugs exist throughout our profession. There is a great deal that can be done to increase awareness and adherence to published treatment guidelines for companion animals. In the 2017 VET Report, we looked at these guidelines in relation to antimicrobial treatment of canine patients. In 2018, we look at felines—who present their own unique treatment challenges.
