Katherine Elkins, DVM

Dr. Katherine Elkins began working at the Banfield of Hoover in November 2020. She grew up in a military family and spent her childhood moving every 3 to 4 years until her parents fell in love with the mountains around Anniston, Alabama and finally set down roots. Dr. Elkins now lives on the same horse farm she called home as a teenager. Dr. Elkins attended Agnes Scott College in Atlanta, Georgia where she earned a bachelor of arts in English literature and creative writing. Soon after graduation, she realized she had to go back to school to become the veterinarian; she had dreamed of being a vet since she was a little girl. With a lot of perseverance and even greater love for animals, she soon found her way to Auburn University College of Veterinary Medicine, where she earned her doctorate of veterinary medicine in 2009. Dr. Elkins practiced in Las Vegas, Nevada and in a variety of practices in South Carolina prior to moving back to Alabama to be closer to family. She lives in Anniston, Alabama with her partner, two dogs, and three horses. Her professional interests include internal medicine, geriatric medicine and hospice care (nothing better than an old doggie with a gray muzzle!), pain management, and challenging dermatology cases. Outside of work she enjoys anything involving horses, her dogs, being outside, and reading/writing.
