Dr. Brian Weekes, DVM
Veterinarian
Dr. Weekes hails from the Caribbean islands. He studied veterinary medicine in the USA where he attended Tuskegee University and graduated first with a Bachelor of Science degree in Animal Husbandry and later with the Doctor of Veterinary Medicine from Tuskegee University’s College of Veterinary Medicine. After graduating, Dr. Weekes returned to the Caribbean island of Montserrat where he settled into practice treating and caring for both large animals (farm animals), and small animals (pets). Life was very idyllic, on a charming, verdantly lush, little island; dubbed the “Emerald Isle” of the Caribbean. After a few years there, Dr. Weekes’ life was changed forever with the sudden, unexpected eruption of the island’s “Soufriere Hills” volcano. Dr. Weekes, being displaced by the dangerous volcanic activity, set off on a “mini - world tour” which included the British Virgin islands, the Bahamas (twice), the United Kingdom (8 years), then back to the Bahamas, then onto Barbados, and finally to the USA where he spent a few months in New York, after which he settled in Florida. An “island boy” at heart Dr. Weekes enjoys marine activities, swimming, snorkeling, scuba diving, and fishing. He’s a nature lover too. To him, all his patients are his personal pets, to cuddle and enjoy, whilst in his care. His chosen career path, at 8 years of age, was the result of his dearly beloved Lhasa Apso, mix named “Andy”, who was left for dead after being ravaged by a neighbor’s pack of dogs. Andy was nursed back to health over a three to four week period, by a little boy who loved him the most, who utilized everything he could put his hands on from his parent’s medicine cabinet. Today Dr. Weekes still cherishes the memories of Andy, his first patient.
