    Banfield Pet Hospital, the world’s largest veterinary practice, named Daniel Aja, DVM, senior vice president and chief medical officer (CMO), taking the place of Jeffrey Klausner, DVM, MS, DACVIM, who retired at the end of 2014. In his new role, Dr. Aja will provide strategic leadership for the medical practice, assist with the selection and retention of outstanding veterinarians, ensure quality medicine and cultivate strategic relationships with the profession.

Dr. George Melillo, Banfield’s Northeast regional medical director, was interviewed on FOX News Channel’s “The Real Story with Gretchen Carlson” and provided tips for pet owners to safeguard their pets in the event of a large scale disaster.

    Banfield Pet Hospital’s State of Pet Health ™ 2014 Report made national news on the April 19 edition of the TODAY Show. Dr. Nina Nardi from our Canoga Park, CA hospital was interviewed in the segment and reviewed key findings from the report, including the rise in feline immunodeficiency virus (FIV) and Lyme disease in dogs. Dr. Nardi also explored where viewers should be vigilant of infectious diseases, including in their own backyard.

    Denver Post’s YourHub online published an article on April 8th recapping a recent community event hosted by Banfield in partnership with the Student American Veterinary Medical Association (SAVMA) and PetAid Animal Hospital. On March 22nd 17 students attending the SAVMA conference in Loveland took a “field trip” to PetAid where they learned from Banfield associates best practices in preventive care. Over 40 pets received wellness exams as a result of this partnership.

    Banfield Pet Hospital released its State of Pet Health™ 2014 Report today, revealing a staggering 48 percent increase in the prevalence of feline immunodeficiency virus (FIV) infection in cats and a 21 percent increase in the prevalence of infection with the bacterium that causes Lyme disease in dogs.

    St. Augustine Record , St. Augustine, Florida
    On March 29, 2014, Banfield opened its first location in St. Augustine, Florida. Dr. Ramon Nieves, the Chief of Staff at the St. Augustine hospital, was interviewed by the St. Augustine Record where he explained the advantages of being part of the Banfield family. To commemorate the grand opening, Banfield provided free veterinary services to the SAFE Pet Rescue on March 25 and 27, as well as donating 20 percent of opening weekend revenue to the nonprofit.

    Banfield opened its second hospital Puerto Rico at El Señorial Plaza in South San Juan on March 1, 2014. The grand opening was featured on Puerto Rican TV stations WAPA and Telemundo with an interview with spokesdoctor Rhemuel Valcarcel. The opening celebration included a contest titled “My Pet is a Star” with celebrity guest Jamie Mayol onsite to judge the furry contestants on their singing and dancing skills. The grand winner received a one-year Optimum Wellness Plan®. To further commemorate the grand opening, we donated a day of free veterinary services to El Faro de Los Animales and 20 percent of grand opening revenue to Humane Society of Puerto Rico.
