Banfield gives back

Every day, our people do good from inside our hospitals. But we know there are always more ways to help our world. That’s why we’re active in our community, lending our support to causes and organizations we believe in.

Banfield has helped over 1 million pets and people since 2013 through Associate-led volunteerism. With more than 1,000 veterinary hospitals in 42 states, Washington D.C., and Puerto Rico, Banfield’s collective impact is making a big difference as we strive to build a brighter future for pets and the people who love them.

Helping vulnerable pets	Inspiring the next generation
Our Associates are passionate about giving back. This drive to give back is what inspired them to become veterinarians in the first place. We believe giving back starts in our own backyards, and we support our Associates to make the biggest difference in their communities through individual volunteering and paid volunteer opportunities such as the Mars Volunteer Program (MVP) and the Mars Ambassador Program (MAP). We also support our Associates by giving them resources so they can make a positive impact that is meaningful to them and to the unique needs of their community. Through our network of community champions, Banfield Associates are empowered to organize volunteer events and activities year-round. These events include preventive care clinics, organized in partnership with local nonprofit organizations and benefiting hundreds of pets each year.	At Banfield, we have a variety of programs that support the future of a diverse profession. This includes our signature volunteer program, Banfield Pet Academy, which is part of our educational pathways initiative and received an honorable mention on Fast Company’s World Changing Ideas list. Pet Academy has reached more K – 12 students through live presentations than any other career outreach program in the veterinary industry – 100,000 youth in all, and we believe it to be the largest program of its kind in the veterinary industry. Our national partnership with Boys & Girls Clubs of America also allows us to reach youth from historically marginalized communities to foster greater diversity in the veterinary profession. Banfield doctors and veterinary technicians engage students in their local community to inspire and educate them on the possibilities, benefits, and fulfillment associated with a career in the veterinary field.

The Banfield Foundation
Because all pets, regardless of circumstance, deserve access to veterinary care, the Banfield Foundation funds programs that enable veterinary care, temporary shelter, and disaster relief. Since 2015, the foundation has made preventive care possible for more than 8.5 million pets through nearly $18 million in grants to nonprofit and animal welfare organizations across the country. The Better Together Fund
The wellbeing of our Associates has always been a top priority for Mars Veterinary Health. With more than 50,000 MVH Associates caring for pets across the United States, it’s inevitable that some will be impacted by a natural or manmade disaster, or by another emergency situation. The Better Together fund provides tangible support to our Associates when it’s needed most.

Because we’re privately-owned, we have independence and the gift of freedom to think in generations, not quarters, so we can invest in the long-term future of our industry, our Associates, our communities, and our planet.

Commitment to sustainability
A healthy planet is critical to ensuring a future where pets, people, and society flourish. We are committed to sustainability and contributing to the Mars Inc. Sustainable in a Generation Plan, aimed at reducing Mars’ total environmental impact in line with what science says is necessary to keep the planet healthy. Recently, Mars announced its Net Zero Roadmap, an action plan for achieving Net Zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2050, including a new target to cut carbon in half by 2030 across its full value chain.
