Dog Chew Toys
"What chew toys are ok for my new puppy?"
Have lots of fun with your new puppy! Any dog bone or chew product can cause an obstruction if the Pet eats it without chewing it into smaller pieces or swallows large pieces of the product. Rawhide can be particularly dangerous because it is so difficult to break into small safe chunks, and many dogs ingest large pieces which become stuck somewhere in the digestive tract, leading to death in worse case scenarios. An owner can help prevent this from happening by making sure that the product is the right size for the pet and can be broken apart easily by the pet into easily ingested pieces. Cutting the treat into small safe pieces before offering it to the Pet is another option. Some toys follow the opposite approach, which is to be fairly indestructible, so that pieces can't be swallowed. It is important with these toys, that they are too big to be swallowed whole and become a danger. There are a number of excellent chew toys available at your local pet store. It is very important with any pet toy to ensure it has been tested and found safe for pets. Additionally, the size of the toy needs to be appropriate for the size of the pet. It is best to supervise your pet when introducing them to any new toy, or treat. Some products are much safer than others, but any toy can become a danger if it is ingested improperly. If you are concerned about what to choose for your pet you can consult either your veterinarian or a representative at the pet store and see what they recommend for your particular dog.
