Introducing a New Puppy

"How do I know if my dog will like our new puppy?"
The good news is that most dogs, after the initial shock of it all, will be happy to have a new playmate. Until they are bonded, you should always supervise interactions between your older dog and puppy. Make sure the older dog retains his/her special place (bed, kennel) without interference by the puppy until you are confident there will be no territory dispute. Older pets do tend to give the younger more slack than they might another adult dog. They seem to understand and be tolerant of a puppy’s immaturity, inexperience, exuberance and just plain goofiness. Also be sure to take time out for some 1:1 with the older dog so he/she knows their place in your life hasn’t been overtaken by the new family member.
